Infrared and Partial Discharge Scanning and Reporting
KPC Power’s certified Thermographers perform online, non-invasive, and non-destructive techniques for monitoring and surveying and have proven to offer the necessary level of detail for condition assessment without disrupting system operation. Common benefits as part of a predictive maintenance program include:
• Online (energized) testing
• Non-contact and non-destructive testing
• Quicker and less expensive than offline tests
• Useful to screen for further visual inspection and offline tests
Infrared Scanning
Thermal cameras look at infrared energy emitted from target objects. What this means for electrical inspections is we’re looking for overheated electrical assets. For example, loose and corroded connections creating higher resistance leading to higher temperatures, unbalanced loads with temperature differences between phases, or a lower liquid level due to a transformer oil leak will be evident with the proper use of thermography.
Partial Discharge Testing
Partial discharge occurs when part of an insulation system fails to withstand the applied electrical field. This can result from poor design, poor workmanship, defective materials, contamination, or aging. For decades, partial discharge testing has been recognized as an excellent method for assessing the health of electrical assets.
